Pet Ultrasound Referral Form

At Westgate Pet Clinic, we believe in partnering with other veterinary professionals to provide the best outcome for our patients. Therefore, we are proud to offer comprehensive abdominal ultrasounds for our sister MVP clinics. Imaging will be performed by Dr. Sophia Norberg who has advanced training in abdominal ultrasound. Board-certified radiologists will review all images and return results in 1-2 days for optimal patient care.

Clients will drop their pet off for the ultrasound. Preliminary reports will be sent same-day to the referring clinic, with the radiologist’s consult report sent when available within 1-2 days. All follow up and recommendations will be the responsibility of the referring veterinarian. However, if there is an emergent problem found on ultrasound,  a preliminary discussion with the client and potential transfer for emergency care will be performed, with the referring veterinarian contacted afterward. Please discuss these expectations with your clients before referral.

To reduce patient stress and facilitate positioning for the best quality ultrasound images, oral premedications should be prescribed by the referring veterinarian. Cats should be given gabapentin 2 hours prior to their ultrasound. Dogs should be given trazodone +/- gabapentin. All patients need to be fasted for 12 hours prior to their ultrasound.

Cost Expectation: Diagnostic abdominal ultrasound + radiologist consult = $571

We are honored to play a supportive role in the management of your patients’ care.
