Understanding the Grieving Process

Pets become such a part of our families that their deaths often cause intense emotional anxiety. Pets rely on family members to decide difficult medical health questions. Facing these questions may leave the pet owner discouraged, confused, angry, or guilty. Understanding these natural feelings will help resolve this complicated process.

We offer a pamphlet on the stages of grieving the loss of a companion animal. We encourage those clients searching for more support to contact one of our veterinarians or the Animal Humane Society of Hennepin County.

Pet loss support groups are available at several locations around the twin cities.  Animal Emergency Veterinary Services offers a meeting on the first Tuesday of every month at their Eden Prairie location. (aevs.com).  The Animal Humane Society of Hennepin County offers a drop-in Pet Loss Support Group for people who have recently lost a companion animal or who are anticipating the loss of a pet. The group is loosely structured by a facilitator and meets on Monday nights from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Come once or as often as you like. Call 763/522-4325 with questions or for further information.
