Dogs and Wolves Share Deadly Parvovirus

Written by Olivia Mirodone, DVM.

A recent study done on the effects of Parvovirus on the gray wolves in Minnesota concluded that the virus may possibly kill as many as 40-60% of all wolf puppies. Very young puppies, and sometimes adolescent canids are the most vulnerable to this disease.

Parvovirus, along with starvation, and human interaction are the most important factors that keep the Minnesota wolf population from growing. The virus will affects most members of the canine family (dogs, wolves, coyotes, possibly foxes).
